Bendigo Secondary School
As a college of almost 1800 students and 180 staff and we did not have a recycling facility in place for beverage containers. This was in part due to a lack of funds to invest in the necessary recycling infrastructure but also a concern about cross contamination. Across the time of 2 and a half months of the project, 51.02 Tonne of material was recycled through the beverage recycling bins. The knowledge of students around the importance of recycling was also developed. When talking to students about their drink containers, they had a very clear understanding of what to do with the containers once they had finished using them and the importance of recycling. |

Public Place Recycling bins were installed across 10 locations around Kingsway. They were placed in strategic places around the area, next to existing waste bins in high traffic areas. During the 3 months audit, 11kgs of waste was found in the waste bins, whilst 9.5kgs of recycling material, 100% free of contamination, was found in the recycling bins.Great verbal feedback was received from traders and residents alike, who are all willing to support further expansion of Public Place Recycling facilities in Glen Waverly. |

Greater Shepparton City Council
The Shepparton Sports Precinct is a Council run facility that caters for netball, soccer, hockey and athletics activities run by recognised sporting clubs, schools and the general public and can cater for up to 4500 people on any given Saturday. Before the implementation of the project, no recycling bins were offered to users at the site. The project required the deployment of 30 public litter stations, each station incorporating two 240 litre MGBs, one for general waste and the other for commingled recycling. Each station would also include signage to assist people in using the correct bin as well as the continuation of the standard bin colours of red for waste and yellow for recycling.
The project also included the requirement for participation by the various sporting clubs and committees that use the facility, setting a requirement for them to assist in the deployment and placement of specific bin stations on game and practise days. Ongoing monitoring and adjustment of the process will undoubtedly be required, however, a reduction in landfill waste and a corresponding increase in recycling diversion has already been evident.
