The project involved implementing recycling of beverage containers at eight Reef Guardian Schools in the Bowen and Collinsville region. This provided an opportunity for over 2500 students to participate in recycling.

Each school collected beverage containers in their donated Cleanaway bin which was collected fortnightly or monthly (depending on the school involved). The beverage containers were sorted in Bowen and sent to Brisbane for recycling.

The total volume of recycled beverage containers collected has been calculated using the Department of Resource Management's (DERM), Do the Right the Use the Right Bin volume conversion table. Between the 17^th of August and the 17^th of December, 2010, the eight schools involved in the project collaboratively collected approximately 49, 500 litres of recycled beverage containers.
